Court Delaying A/L Re-correction Results- Minister Examinations Department
By Nirmala Kannangara
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena says that the delay in releasing the G.C.E. A/L re-correction results was due to a Court order.
“There is a pending case in Court on the A/L results. Hence the Court directed the Examinations Commissioner not to release the re-correction results until the verdict is delivered.
I do not know why these trade unions and students are claiming that there is a delay in releasing these re-correction results when during previous years the Department took at least five to six months to release these results,” Gunawardena said.
However The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) President Joseph Stalin says the delay is not due to any technical reason but due to the failure by the Examinations Department to release accurate 2011 A/L results.
“It took only four months for this Department to evaluate and release the results for 294,000 students but it is taking five months since 140,000 students had applied for re-correction. So far the authorities have failed to release the results,” Stalin said.
Stalin also rejected the Education Minister’s claim that the delay was due to a Court order.
“This is absolutely false. There was no such Court ruling to the Examinations Department to hold the results till the verdict is delivered. These are all made up stories,” Stalin said.

IF THE MINISTER IS MISLEADING THE AFFECTED STUDENTS BY MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS REGARDING A NON EXISTENT COURT ORDER HE MUST BE REPRIMANDED BY THE SUPREME COURT WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY.
