Enter Sanath Jayasuriya The Dancer
International cricket star Sanath Jayasuriya performed on a different pitch — he took to the dance floor for the upcoming reality show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” (Dancing with the Stars) and grooved to popular track “Tama tama loge”.
The former Sri Lankan cricket captain gave the audience a 30-second sneak peek into his recently-acquired dancing skills but took a while to get used to the stage and dance style.
Dressed in a white suit, he came on the stage with his choreographer Suchitra, and started by pointing a finger here and there on the lyrics “Tu meri ahaa….”
He may not have been the best dancer from the total bouquet of 12 celebrities who are participating in the show, but he easily received the loudest cheers from the media during the glitzy press conference of the show in Mumbai on Thursday night.
Later, he was even seen matching steps with dancing diva Madhuri Dixit, one of the judges on the show.
Asked if she would like to give some dance tips to Jayasuriya prior to the show Madhuri, the original “Tama tama loge” girl said: “We will give our tips on his performance, but once the competition begins.”
Sanath is not the first international cricketer to take to dancing – last year former England cricketer Mark Ramprakash did the same – although with far more commendable results.
Ramprakash entered into more serious dancing and he and his partner went on to win the competition.
After Sanath’s brief debut on the stage don’t hold your breath for any dancing skills that could match his batting ones.
