History Being Shifted

The statue of the late Prime Minister S. W. R. D Bandaranaike located at Galle Face is to be shifted to a new location to make way for a luxury hotel. The statue is seen here in the backdrop of construction work underway for the new hotel.

  1. HOW UNFORTUNATE, I ALWAYS ENJOY WATCHING THE CROWS DEFECATE
ON THE HEAD OF S.W.R.D.Bandaranaike . It would be good if this Statue is
is altered a bit & put in Beirra Lake near Hilton hotel, showing S.W.R.D.
Bandaranaike URINATING INTO BAIRRA LAKE ( WITH HIS COCK COMING
OUT OF HIS SARONG ) THIS WOULD MAKE S.W.R.D. BANDARANAIKE HAVING THE WORLDS BIGGEST COCK. AFTER ALL HIS WIFE WAS THE WORLDS FIRST WOMAN PRIME MINISTER.

56 revolution? Prof Nalin are you there?

  3. samuel

Nicely treated by Mr 10% for the work hes done to the nation. Now lets erect a statue of King and the brothers!

  4. mohamed

He is now powerless, so cannot defend!!!! where are his supporters?

  5. Mervyn

The statue currently at the correct place and removing it is a shameless act of MR’s regime. Additionally, the construction of a Hotel to accomodate an immaginery surge of foreign tourist is an idiotic day dream. The connstruction will only destroy the current pleasing environment. In my view the ideal place for the proposed dream is the land area used by Temple Trees. It is only logical if MR’s goones can claim land from others to construct dream hotels anticipating tourist surge (which will never happen) then MR can also sacrifice his comfort facilitiy to house those anticipated good for nothing cheap tourists if this is not possible MR has to reclaim the land area occupied by the American Embassy. After all this is an another avenue to send Americans home.

MR may have ulterior motives in removing this statue.

However, Bandaranaike family occupies too much public space in SL.

If the BIA airport is not enough, they also have the BMICH. This statue is too imposing like a Soviet era Stalin statue.

Sri Lanka is not anyone’s family fiefdom. That applies to MR clan as well.

Removal is OK with me. Got better things to worry about.

  7. Jayath Nandana

SOMEBODY SHOULD NOT MAKE UNNECESSARY FUSSES ON THIS REMOVAL. THEY SHOULD RECALL EVEN GREAT LENIN S STATUE TOO REMOVED.IF THE GOVT FOLLOWS OR GLUE TO “BANDARANAYAKA ” DEMARCHES (NOT CBK!FOR GOOD SHAKE ) REMOVAL IS NOT A PROBLEM.PROBLEM IS THE DEVIATION OF POLICIES

  8. Magilin Akka

Dump this eyesore into the sea, Aney!

  9. Sawjana

So called Bandaranayake was introduced sinhala only act and put country in turmoil

    • prahalad

he too flourished through the racist politics…in fact he’s one of the pioneers…

  10. This Government not only will change the location of a statue but also will change the History of the Land.

  11. The Location of Where the Late SWRD Bandaranaike stands is not that important in comparison to construction of a Hotel.

    • Appuhamy

Absolutely. This statue needs to be shifted to the President’s Office (former Parliament) premises – to stand with the other former leaders of the country.

  12. Sri Lankan

This is the end of the Bandaranayake Dynasty.Next MR wil acquire Horagolla and the valut where the father and son rest in Peace together with SWRD’s father’s tomb and build a massive hotel to accomodate MR’s Russian , Chinese , Cuban and Venezulean as well as Palestenian guests.Long Live the Rajapakse Dynasty that will rule Sri Lanka as long as the Sun and moon shines over this country!!!!!

  13. Palitha. Ranatunge

This statue is not destroyed, it will be located somewhere else,

  14. Kalu Sudda

True Colombons remember this as a beautiful gentle green hilly landscape blending in breathtakingly with the majestic old parliment and the quaint Army
Cricket grounds sans the ugly concrete wall fittingly providing a breathtaking picturesque backdrop. In the mid 70′s Sirima Bandaranaike in an apoplectic
fit decided to rename streets & build SWRD statues across the land.

This monstrous statue the first of many symbolised the hatred, divisiveness, biterness & violence that SWRD spewed and wrought upon this country.

Begone yer vile symbol of hate !…inadvertantly MR has done something right finally.

  15. gundappa

This statue was erected by the family of the late SWRD to perprtuate his name. He, whilst PM did NOTHING significant to warrant he erection of this statue, which was gifted by the Chinese Government.

All that SWRD did, was to set in motion his infamous Swabasha in 24 hours mantram.

This shaort sighted, very short sighted policy created HAVOC, which after over 50 years, still reigns, creating dissent amogst people of different races.

As such, there is no special place he deserves, in the annals of this country.

Why cannot it be planted permanently in Horagolla. There was a time when all public busses plying that stretch of road passing Horagoola had to stop and pay homage to SWRD. The Veyangoda railway stattion was made a stop for all trains, even those express trains

Idiosyncracies of the ruling party at that time

  16. Germany does not have any statue of Mr.Adolph Hitler..non..why? cos they do not want to remember the man who was responsible for world war two and the largest genocide plunging a complete race almost into extinction
Hence..through the countries history.. Mr.S.W. R.D.B in my eyes was the start of the main separation done to the society of Sr Lanka and was one compelling reason for the war which began between the Sinhalese and Tamils of this country. I am not on board with most things done by the government these days…but hats off to his excellency for moving that damn statue.
