Leadership Training For Monks
By Indika Sri Aravinda
The Higher Education Ministry has decided to make it mandatory for Buddhist monks entering the Buddhist University and other national universities to also undergo leadership training.
Secretary to the Ministry Sunil Jayantha Navaratne said that the training will be conducted at the Homagama Pali and Buddhist University and the Buddhasravaka Dharma Faculty of Anuradhapura.
Navaratne said that so far around 250 monks have been registered to undergo the leadership training.
All the monks who have been selected for the training had completed their advanced level examination and were selected for university admission.
The training will commence in August and according to the Ministry it was made mandatory based on requests put forward by some monks.
According to the Higher Education Ministry the training will include training on going in search of alms, meditation and their day to day conduct.
Leadership training is already being carried out for new university entrants with the assistance of the military.

Give them to leadesrship training including Weopen, Karathe, Physcical fitness, How to do spoilingext. WHAT IS THE HIHER EDUCATION POLICY IN THIS COUNTRY. Entire higher edycation become a mess. Cnt belive what will be happend in future education in this country. Relavant authorities must be seriously considerd all these matters in thier decision making process
How about inservice on how to molest young”bikkhus” without getting caught.
This shoulsd be especially for those to be assigned to serve overseas.
Recent conduct of Buddhist monk show us that they need to be trained on morality, ethics, non violence, women’s righ etc.
Why not making “Leadership Training ” be mandotory to some of those dick heads running the country?
Ledership and Disipline has been told to them By Loard Buddha,If they don’t know that they should not be called Sanga.
The Minister of Higher Education should resign for militarizing universities. He cannot speak 2 straight lines of English which is the international lanugage of education and research and claims to be turning Lanka into a knowledge hub! S.B. Dissanaiyake is an insult to the university and it cowardly Donos should have call for his resignation a long time ago!
CRAZY INDEED.CRANKY MINISTER.
“Leadership Training” is the very last thing they need…. It would be better if they were taught how to follow instead of lead…. starting with how to follow the Vinaya
Most important would be spiritual conduct and codes. May be the Ministry needs Leadership training first?
What about some Military Training too to the Buddhist monks to benefit the Country?
“Leadership Training for Monks to include training on going in search of alms.” Buddhist Monks have their Buddhist monastic Code in going for Alms and other related. Lord Buddha has often been described as one of the greatest leaders of all time. Leadership is in the Buddhist Monks’ way of life as such further training would be like tying a golden ribbon to a Broom. Lord Buddha’s Teachings as given in his Four Noble truths covers what is necessary for the Buddhist Monks.
