Trinity celebrate Champions crown with 76-5 blast against DS

TrinityCollegecelebrated their emergence as the undisputed champions of the 2012 schools A division rugby tournament with a resounding 76-5 win over a hapless DS Senanayake at the Pallekele stadium on Saturday in their last league game.

Trinity’s points came from 3 goals and 11 tries to 1 solitary try by DS. Trinity did not even attempt the conversions of many of their tries and they sought to earn as much bonus points in the game.

Leading from the front was their skipper Kaneel Seneviratne who scored four tries, Udalagama three, Thisala Karunatilake two, Tharinda Ratwatte two, Randika Alwis, Aluvihare and replacement Rasheed  were the other scorers.

Trinity led 51-5 at half time but mid way during the second half they chose to substitute several of their key players and their scoring momentum slowed down.

Incredibly, Trinity has waited 25 years to be crowned league champions. The last time they won the league was way back in 1987 when they remained unbeaten under the captaincy of Tyrel Rajapakse.
