No Development On Abducted Refugees

No further information has been received by the External Affairs Ministry on the abduction of four Sri Lankan Tamils from a refugee camp in Chennai.
Sarath Dissanayake, spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, said that they had been in contact with the Chennai police and were closely following the progress of the investigation. However, he added that there had been no further information regarding the abducted people.
When the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission in Southern India was contacted, they responded that, “the Deputy High Commissioner is back in Sri Lanka, we are unaware of this incident and you would have to wait till the Deputy High Commissioner returns.”
Four Sri Lankan Tamils were abducted last Sunday from the Kavankarai refugee camp situated near the Poolal Police Station in Chennai. According to eyewitnesses the four refugees were abducted by a group of men in a white van.
