St Peter’s scored 4 goals, 1 try and a penalty to S Thomas’ 2 goals and 2 tries. S.Thomas’ led 19-17 at half time.
The home side drew first blood in the opening minutes of the game when their number 8 Zainudeen went over for an unconverted try. The Peterites responded almost immediately with a try of their own through winger Praveen de Silva which was converted by Dulaj Perera to put the Petes in front 7-5.
Perera then put over a penalty to increase the lead to 10-5 but the Thomians came storming back into the game through two tries by fullback Jawarth which were both converted by Devin Jayasinghe to put them comfortably ahead 19-10. However St Peter’s narrowed the lead to just two points just before the break with a try by Magage who put the finishing touches to a jinxing run by Perera who also converted the try to leave the scores at 19-17.
After the break flanker Jansen scored for the Peterites and Perera converted to put their side in front again 24-19 and from there onwards they asserted their superiority with Perera scoring by the corner flag and converting the try himself 31-19. Zainudeen scored his second try of the game for S Thomas but the conversion was missed 31-24 and then St Peter’s put the issue beyond doubt with their fifth try to emerge victorious 36-24.
