Ten Fruits Give Rs. 16.5 Bn.
Earnings made from Sri Lanka’s top 10 fruit exports last year doubled to Rs. 16,486.45 million year on year (YoY); data from a publication released in respect of National Agribusiness Awards 2012 held on Sunday showed.
However the quantities exported marginally increased by 5.3% YoY to 76,391,433 kilos; statistics further showed.
Those items as per their HS classification, in descending order of value were: Coconuts, brazil and cashew nuts, fresh or dried, whether or not shelled or peeled and other; Coconuts, brazil and cashew nuts, fresh or dried, whether or not shelled or peeled, husked or partly husked; Bananas, fresh or dried; Citrus fruit, fresh or dried; Coconuts, brazil and cashew nuts, fresh or dried, whether or not shelled or peeled; Other fruit fresh and “other”; Coconuts, brazil and cashew nuts, fresh or dried, whether or not shelled or peeled; Fruit, dried, mixtures of nuts or dried fruits and “other”; Other nuts, fresh or dried, whether or not shelled or peeled, arecanuts, fresh (not shelled or peeled) and dates, figs, pineapple, avocado, guavas, mangos, mangosteen, fresh or dried.
Fruit Exports Up 87%
Sri Lanka’s fruit exports to its top 10 markets increased by 86.6% year on year (YoY) to Rs. 11.72 billion last year, a publication released in respect of National Agribusiness Awards 2012 held on Sunday said.
Volumes however marginally contracted by 0.5% YoY to 55,653,781 kilos. The markets, value wise in descending order were UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, USA, Germany, Iran, Pakistan, Spain, France and India.
