Raid On Monkeys In Pita Kotte

A raid was carried out to capture wild monkeys in Pita Kotte last week in an attempt to end a menace faced by area residents after a child in the area was bitten.
Wildlife Department officers with air rifles chased the monkeys and captured some of them. A monkey had bitten a child in the area close to the Rajamaha Vihara temple recently. The wild monkey menace in Pitta Kotte has continued for several years despite complaints being lodged with the relevant officials, residents in the area said. Often the monkeys damage power lines and roofs in the area but action was taken by the relevant officials only after the child was attacked when a monkey had climbed down a house balcony. (ER)
