Colombo Skyline To Be Cleared Of Ugly Communication Towers By The End Of 2014

About 150 radio, television and telephone communication towers in the Colombo District are to be dismantled by end of 2013, according to Anusha Pelpita, Director General of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.
Accordingly, 43 radio, 23 television and 50 telecommunication towers have been earmarked to be removed by early 2014, said Pelpita.
At present, there are over 5,000 such towers in Colombo and suburbs. Because of this certain radio transmissions are getting disrupted. As such, these towers will be completely removed from the Colombo District while the removal of towers in Gampaha, Kalutara, Ratnapura districts, would be carried out in stages.
Pelpita said that all broadcasting facilities would be from the proposed ‘Nelum Tower’.
The ‘Nelum Tower billed as the tallest structure in South Asia, will be built by a Chinese construction firm at a cost of US$104 million at D. R. Wijewardene Mawatha in Colombo.
Construction work is scheduled in October and is to be completed by 2014.
Pelpita added that a company will be set up to handle the broadcasting transmission and would be selected through a tender procedure. That company will handle all radio, television and telecommunication transmissions for all institutions.
If Noroccholai power station is any things to go by Chinese construction standards I would avoid building this tallest tower.
Surely this too will not be second to Norochchalai. The only perfect thing done by Chinese is BMICH, ‘cos unlike MR regime commissions were not involved during Sirima regime.
What will be that so called company? MR & Co or Carlton Co?

Ofcourse the idea of having an open sky is good, even having the power cables below ground like in the western countries will make the city look good!
People will have to choose between living in a city without radiation which is killing them softly or having a fantastic and uninterrupted service on their mobile phones..

Imagine what the concentration of radiation will do to anybody working near that tower!
radio waves r harmless to body, so ur arguement doesnt make sense. all i hope is, the building built by chinese dont collapes in few weks
