Rejuvenated Samaraweera Leads Kandurata To Easy Win Over Uthura
A rejuvenated Thilan Samaraweera displayed a new attacking side to his game with a blistering assault on the Uthura Rudras to lead his team to a comfortable win in their SLPL game at Pallekele on Saturday.
Samaraweera even overshadowed his opening partner the explosive Sanath Jayasuriya whose
contribution to an opening stand of 50 was only five. Samaraweera struck 9 fours and a six in his knock of 71 which came off just 45 balls and must surely put him in contention for a place in the T20 side for the World Cup.
The victory is the first for the Warriors in the Sri Lanka Premier League, leaving the Rudras the only winless side after three matches. In pursuit of 169, the Rudras’ chances were dented by Tanvir’s first two overs, which yielded two wickets for nine. When John Hastings claimed two of his own soon after, the Rudras’ most dangerous batsmen were already cback in the dug-out, and they were faced with a required rate of well above nine, from 34 for 4.
