TNA To Protest In Jaffna

By Easwaran Rutnam

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is to stage a massive demonstration in Jaffna tomorrow (Monday) against the alleged assault on Jaffna university students and TNA MP E. Saravanabawan last week.
The assault had taken place when the students were commemorating the LTTE ‘heroes’ day’ anniversary in the Jaffna university.
Saravanabawan told The Sunday Leader he had gone to the university after the students had contacted him to say that they were being assaulted by the army and police.
He said that when he went to the location he was prevented from entering the university premises by the police and at the same time his van, which was parked nearby, was attacked with stones by an unidentified group.
“I am going to raise a privilege issue over the incident in parliament,” the TNA MP said.
Saravanabawan said he had lodged a complaint with the Jaffna police over the incident last week but is yet to see any progress in the investigations.
On Friday teachers at the university went on strike over a clash between the students and police while the students boycotted classes for two days.
At least 6 students were arrested when the students protested over the police and army preventing the ‘heroes’ day’ events from taking place.
Saravanabawan said there were also photographs showing the police assaulting some of the students when the demonstration by the students was dispersed by riot police.
The TNA MP questioned as to why the Tamil students were not allowed to commemorate the LTTE heroes’ day anniversary when the JVP could do the same in the south.
“The JVP had once been involved in militancy and had even attempted to overthrow the late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike. So why is it that they can have a heroes’ day event,” the TNA MP asked.

NO BODY HAS THE RIGHT TO PROTEST OR DEMONSTRTE AGAINST ANY ACTION TAKEN BY THE FORCES FOR AND ON ACCOUNT OF ACTION BEINGTAKEN IN THE NAME OF PROTECTING THE COUNTRY. If the honorable MP has to ask such a stupid question abut the JVP after the end of the war on terrorism, and the outlawing of LTTE activities (for obvious reasons), then this man’s suitability as a representative of the country comes into question.

A very perfect comment by Saravanabavan

To compare LTTE celebration with JVP is sick. JVP stands for all races for socialism and communism. LTTE stands for a “Pure dravida racialy state called Tamil Elaam” Where sinhalese, muslims are not welcomed. Its a fyking big difference.

  5. MALIN

TNA MP cannot compare JVP insurrection with the LTTE the most brutal terrorist outfit in the world. LTTE is a terrorist outfit banned in Sri Lanka and 37 other countries in the world. So how can a legitimate Government allow some sympathisers to commemorate Terrorist Heroes Day?

    • DMR Gunawardene

Mr Malin, National LTTE Heros day is commerated all over the world, not just in SL. The LTTE is now an organisation an entity with the goal of creating an independent state in SL. The present Govt of SL are the terrorists killing and torturing Tamils, raping foreigners, sending white vans to kidnap and murder people who don’t agree with their genocidal policies.

The students according to reports had been celebrating the Karthigai Vilakkedu – a festival of remembrance of ancesters by lighting oil lamps. They had explained to the DIG Police and he had agreed.
But the army had thought that they were celebrating “maveerar naal” to remember dead LTTE cadres, which day fell on Nov. 27th.
Even so,the army had no reason to assault. Does this confirm State Terrorism by
the Military Regime in the north?

It’s not allowed to celebrate terrorists in the civilized world because it’s an insult to the value systems of the world… whether it’s Buddhist, Christian, Muslim or Hindu they do not match none of these values.

Bin Laden’s death can not be celebrated in any part of the world.
Hitler’s death will never be allowed to be remembered with Nazi symbols etc on display. They are banned in all Europe.
LTTE’s ideology was exactly the same like Hitlers, same level of xenophbia, same extremism against other races, minorities (they killed, ethnic cleansed all minoriteis from their areas, like Hitler did to Jews) they refute multi-culturism etc.
The only difference between the LTTE terrorists and and the then NAZI’s is that the former is BLACK group.
The Black Nazis of nothern Sri Lanka should be stopped their leaders should be arrested. in the name of peace.
