Lanka Hopes For Change Under Kerry
The government is hoping for better ties with the United States under new US Secretary of State John Kerry.
In a congratulatory message to Kerry on his appointment, External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L.Peiris said that he looks forward to working closely with Kerry to further strengthen the bilateral partnership of both countries based on his understanding of the importance of the relations and the challenges Sri Lanka faces after emerging from a protracted conflict that spanned three decades
“I recall with pleasure that Sri Lanka has engaged your attention over the years, as borne out by the report you co-authored in December 2009 recommending a re-evaluation of the US – Sri Lanka relationship,” Peiris said in a statement yesterday.
Kerry replaced Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. Minister Peiris noted that Kerry will bring to the office the wisdom and experience gained during a long and distinguished political and professional career.
“I am confident that your pragmatic outlook, particularly having been the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will stand in good stead in steering the foreign relations of your country in these challenging times,” he said. (ER)

Double Standards. When America Puts Tough Questions To The Government, They Say To Mind Their Business. When We Need Their Support, GL Says We Like To Work With Them. This Is Not The Diplomatic Way To Deal With A Super Power. Very Soon We’ll Know Our Mistake.
G.L needs to revive his grey matter than painting his grey hair
This a pipe dream. When you commit genocide against 40,000 of your own people, you CANNOT have good relations with anyone unless the perpertators are brought to justice at an international human rights court.
John Kerry will follow the same policies that Hillary Clinton followed. This is a good opportunity for our government to work with them, and cooperate with any investigations. Unless of course they have much to hide.
