By Indika Sri Aravinda

Land under the Board of Investment is to be acquired for the expansion of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
Minister of Civil Aviation Piyankara Jayaratne said that cabinet approval has been obtained for this purpose.
He said that the land will be acquired as part of the second phase of the expansion project of the airport.
The second phase of the expansion project is being carried out with Japanese assistance and is expected to be completed by 2015.
Minister Jayaratne said that a garment factory which had been built on BOI land and had since been shut down will be demolished for the expansion project.
He said that a train station will also be constructed at the BIA soon.
Meanwhile the Minister said that domestic airports will be opened in Nuwara Eliya, Trincomalee, Ampara, Batticaloa and Puttalam.
He also insisted that the BIA will not be closed at any point despite the construction of the Mattala international airport.

Why should the land be acquired. You forcibly take over the land as the government is doing in the North and East of Sri Lanka. There is a difference between North and South.
