Wimal Says Will Not Boycott Cabinet

Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities, Wimal Weerawansa said that he has no intention of boycotting Parliament over his concerns about the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. P. B. Jayasundera.

Speaking to The Sunday Leader, Weerawansa said that he has his own opinions about some government officials but he will not vent his anger on the entire Cabinet or the President.

Several websites had reported last Friday that Weerawansa would bocott Cabinet meetings as a mark of protest over the failure by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to remove the Finance Secretary. “I went for last week’s Cabinet meeting. I don’t know where these websites get their stories from.

I have no intension of boycotting Cabinet,” the Minister said. Minister Weerawansa was quoted in the media last week as saying that Jayasundera should be removed for failing to adhere to Cabinet decisions. He accused Jayasundera of imposing a cess for coconuts despite a Cabinet decision to have discussions with the coconut industry before reaching a decision on the issue.
