Cricket Board Vindicated

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board was vindicated yesterday after its proposal to offer the television broadcasting rights for international matches played in Sri Lanka to Taj Television was backed in a bidding process.

The Cricket board committee headed by board President Upali Dharmadasa, Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga, Vice President and sponsorship committee chairman Asanga Seniviratne, Treasurer Nuski Mohamed and CEO Ajith Jayasekera had proposed that the television broadcasting rights be given to Taj TV.

However Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage had called for the bidding process after rejecting a request from the cricket board. The closing date for the bid was yesterday and Taj TV had made the highest bid.

Sri Lanka Cricket, meanwhile in a press statement yesterday, announced the receipt of offers for the sale of International Broadcast, Internet, Mobile, Radio, and Sponsorship Rights.

The cricket board media unit said that Taj Television Limited, Nimbus Communications Ltd, NEO Prime Sports and Total Sports Asia had topped the bids in the category.

It also said that it had receive offers from Kingsdown TV, STV Productions, Nimbus Communications and Sportsorkz Fine Vision Group in relation to the TV production for International Cricket matches hosted by Sri Lanka Cricket.

The statement said that the bid opening for both Tenders took place at the Taj Samudra Hotel yesterday in the presence of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Officials, representatives from the respective bidders, representation from the Ministry of Sports and the Auditor Generals Department.

The bids will now be submitted to the Technical Evaluation Committee for evaluation and recommendations. (ER)
