By Indika Sri Aravinda

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has decided not to gazette the election results of independent groups and minor political parties who had failed to declare their assets by last week.

Additional Commissioner R.M.A. Ratnayake said that all recognized political parties had declared their assets ahead of the September 21 Provincial Council elections.

However he said independent groups and minor political parties had not met the deadline which expired last Thursday.

Ratnayake said that the preferential vote results of those who had not declared their assets will not be gazetted until they make the asset declaration.
He said that 25 political parties and independent groups are contesting the elections for the Northern, Central and North Western Provincial Councils.
Meanwhile Ratnayake said that the Elections Commissioner had met the police last week regarding security for the elections.

He also said that a meeting will take place today between political party representatives and election monitors regarding the elections.
On Friday the Elections Commissioner had met District officers and returning officers regarding the elections.
