SLRC To Seek AG Advice

By Indika Sri Aravinda

The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) has sought the advice of the Attorney General (AG) regarding approximately Rs 120 million which politicians and some government institutions owe the state television broadcaster.

Well informed sources at SLRC said that legal action will be filed once the advice is received from the AG in order to recover the money.

Sources said that of those who owe SLRC, politicians owe over Rs 42 million while state institutions owe just over Rs 56 million. At least four other institutions including the Trade and Commerce Ministry and the Media Ministry owe approximately Rs 13 million to the SLRC.

The politicians and state institutions had committed to make the payments ahead of 2011 but had defaulted on their payments despite several notices sent out by the SLRC.As a result the Chairman of SLRC has now sought the advice of the AG to file legal action and recover the money.
