EPC To Discuss 13A Soon
The Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) is expected to discuss and decide on its stand on the 13th Amendment soon, an EPC member said.
According to the EPC member from the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal (TMVP), party leaders of the Council are expected to first meet and discuss the issue.
Subsequently a resolution on the 13th Amendment to the constitution will be drafted and put before the Assembly to be adopted, the TMVP member said.
The TMVP and most members of the EPC have been of the opinion that the 13th Amendment must be fully implemented and land and police powers be devolved to the provinces.
Most of the other Provincial Councils have however so far voted against the 13th Amendment and backed proposed changes to be made to it including the removal of land and police powers. (ER)
