Rajagiriya School Bans Hijab

A school in Rajagiriya has banned Muslim students from wearing the hijab (head scarf) to school.

The school principal had reportedly forced two students to remove the hijab on Friday if they wanted to attend classes.

Parents of the two students had then voiced objections over the move and this had resulted in a tense situation.

Kotte Mayor Janaka Ranawaka said that he intervened over the matter and urged both the school authorities and the parents to resolve the matter amicably.

The Mayor denied reports that he had supported the ban of the hijab by the school administration.

its sad to note in Sri Lanka. In western countries school allow Muslim girls to wear Hijabs and its their religions right. These idiots will very soon destroy modern Sri Lanka

This bigoted action against Muslims is just part of a long history of oppression by the Sri Lankan Buddhists who are trying to define their national identity via religion and ethnicity.

The world would do well to speak out against this and other discriminatory acts, as well as boycotting Sri Lankan exports.

I for one find the propaganda against non-Buddhists in Sri Lanka to be disgusting and a violation of human rights.

This is not Saudi Arabia,so there is nothing wrong in imposing a ban.

Unless the school adheres to a strict uniform code, this ban is discriminatory and illegal under natural justice. As a nation, we have been and are far more tolerant of other religions and faiths for hundreds of years and this principal is attempting to score brownie points with Bodu Bala Sena.

WHATEVER IT MAY BE , THESE ARE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE INDIVIDUAL ACCORDING TO THE LAW OF THE CREATOR , CAN U ASK THE YELLOW ROBED MONK TO REMOVE THE ROBE AND TO ATTEND CLASSES , CAN U ASK THE NUN TO REMOVE THEIR COVER .

    SO DO NOT ENCOURAGE HATRED

SCHOOL PRINCIPAL HAS TO BE FAIR ENOUGH TO JUDGE ALL
