MMI Donates Mobile Library To Jaffna

MMI Group has contributed US $50,000 towards the setting up of a mobile library to promote reading among youths in Jaffna. Besides the mobile unit, 10,000 books were also donated to the Jaffna National Library. More than 3000 schoolchildren from 38 schools are expected to benefit from this initiative.

Headquartered in London, Modern Montessori International (MMI) Group has a global presence spanning across three continents and is currently operating close to 100 pre-schools and teacher training colleges in 16 countries. Dr T Chandroo, Chairman and CEO of MMI Group noted that the donation of the mobile library is a worthy effort and he was very happy to be able to provide the resources to the children in Jaffna.

During a previous visit to Jaffna, K Shanmugam, Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law, had received requests from locals for education aid for their children. Dr Chandroo gladly agreed to contribute when he was made aware of the requests.

Together with Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Singapore National Library (NLB), Singapore Ceylon Tamils Association (SCTA), Singapore International Foundation (SIF) and other donors, the project was made possible and it was formally launched by K Shanmugam on April 4 2014. The ceremony was witnessed by many distinguished guests.

Launched in 2008, MMI Sri Lanka is currently marking a milestone by enrolling 270 students, playing a major role in nurturing the future generation of the country from a very early age on.

Equipped with excellent teacher training facilities to ensure that children receive the best care and education, MMI Sri Lanka is looking at the possibility of expanding their centers to other parts of the country as well.

  1. I AM MADE TO UNDERSTAND THAT MMI IS NOT RECOGNIZED IN SRI LAN AUTHORITIES. ONE OF MY RELATIVE WANTED TO START A MONTESSORI SCHOOL IN THE SUBURBS AND THE AUTHORITIES CONCERNED HAS CATEGORICALLY TOLD THIS PERSON THAT ONLY AMI IS RECOGNIZED TO OPEN A SCHOOL AND NOT MMI. WHEN THIS IS IN FORCE, MMI AUTHORITIES SHOULD GET CLEARANCE ON THIS ISSUE AS OTHERWISE WORDS BY MOUTH WILL SPOIL THE NAME AND FAME OF MMI.

    GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

  2. When are we sending the thugs from South to burn these books and library.
