The Administrative Committee of the University of Rajarata is to meet on July 21 to decide on the next step regarding the student issue.
Vice Chancellor of the University of Rajarata Professor Ranjith Wijewardena told The Sunday Leader that they have not taken any decision on when to reopen the university or what steps will be taken regarding the student issue.

He added that the University Administrative Committee will meet on July 21 to decide on the matter.
Meanwhile Secretary of the Rajarata University Students’ Union Amila Perera said that the University Administration has been reluctant to give students any relief.

He added that 31 students arrested for taking Vice Chancellor and several other staff members of the University hostage and they were released last week and one student is yet to be released.

He added, “We are going to take serious actions through a collective student movement with the help of other universities to demand the administration to give favourable responses to the students’ issues.”

The University of Rajarata was closed indefinitely following the incident where the students held the Vice Chancellor and several members of the staff hostage demanding solutions for their issues.
