Virgin Coconut Oil, Our Own Miracle, Says Shanthini

Coconut is an integral part of Sri Lankan life. It is in every meal in Sri Lankan households in one form or another. However, over the years, the manufacturing processes have changed from the methods used decades ago in the villages resulting in health issues such as cholesterol, etc.

A remarkable solution is available today with the Coconut Miracle brand UK Certified Organic Cold Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil being introduced to the Sri Lankan market.
Based in West Sussex with its manufacturing arm in Sri Lanka, Coconut Miracle (Pvt.) Ltd. is the brainchild of Shanthini Ahangama, whose goal is to bring the Lankan consumer the finest, organically grown coconut based products with the powerful message of ‘Health & Wellness’.

Coconut Miracle Coconut Food Products are recognized for being 100% natural, functional, dietary food, low glycemic index, non-dairy, good for vegetarian and chosen by health conscious people especially those facing/managing health challenges. These products are high in nutritional value and works wonders with immune deficiencies.
Organic Virgin Coconut Oil’s functions are to Detoxify Respiratory System, Cleanse Digestive Tract, Balance PH Level and Nourish Cellular of the body. In a ‘nutshell’ it can be used as: anti-fungal, antibiotic, weight control, sports nutrition, cardiovascular health, skin health & beauty, nutritive and culinary.

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is known as the healthiest cooking oil as it does not break down into cholesterol when heated but is absorbed directly by the liver thereby generating energy – instantaneously.
Pure coconut oil is also used for ‘Oil Pulling’ for teeth cleaning etc. Cold-pressed virgin coconut oil is used for cleaning teeth by ‘Oil Pulling’ and it keeps teeth clean and even gradually removes old dental plaque.
“Coconut Miracle brand was launched in 2010 in the United Kingdom with the focus on Health and Well Being. Our vision is Health and Wellness through Virgin Coconut Oil,” says Shanthini.

Elaborating on virgin coconut oil, Shanthini says that it is manufactured cold pressed. “Basically, it is a very raw product and it’s in its natural format. It’s unrefined. As such, it holds 51 per cent of lauric acid, which is also in breast milk. And the basic principle why we keep feeding infants with breast milk to keep the baby from getting immune deficiencies….also applies here”
According to Shanthini, the same rule applies to Virgin Coconut Oil. There are certain customers in the UK who are suffering from cancer and they have been asked to take virgin coconut oil in its raw format – a spoon or two a day and recommended as a massage oil. It basically prevents and manages immune deficiencies. Virgin Coconut Oil, which has zero per cent cholesterol, is even good for problems like diabetes.

“It is the only oil that does not break down into cholesterol when heated and that’s the greatest advantage”. In the western world, it has been proven that this oil has reversed the process of the deadly Alzheimer’s disease. So this oil is really popular in countries like the United States, UK, Australia, etc.,” she says.
Shanthini, a Chartered Marketer with experience in travel and leisure/ banking and finance sectors, came back to Sri Lanka last year as she was so passionate about this product, she thought of introducing this brand to the local supermarkets Ironically, Virgin Coconut Oil is a Sri Lankan export product and very few Sri Lankans appears to be aware of it.

According to Shanthini, the first certified organic product was launched at Keells. Now it’s available at Arpico and soon will be extended to other supermarkets too. The newly opened Good Market at Race Course has the entire Coconut Miracle range on offer.
“My objective is that Sri Lankans should be more aware of their health and if there’s an easier way out – as I’m so convinced that this is a great health product – why not make use of it. Sky is the limit with this product for health conscious customers,” points out Shanthini.

She also observes that more and more Sri Lankans are getting health conscious. “You can notice more and more are walking into fitness centres and some walking both in the morning and evening. They are walking their way into fitness. Since it’s all about striking a balance between the dietary factor and exercise ….One has to eat sensibly and exercise. That’s the key to wellness and basically that’s my message and my brand is Coconut Miracle. And it is the UK certified Organic brand available and that speaks volumes about the quality of the product,” says Shanthini.
‘Coconut Miracle Virgin Coconut Oil comes in varying sizes and packaging;both glass and plastic having listened to my customers and making every effort to satisfy their needs There’s more good news, says Shanthini revealing that now they also have Organic Coconut Flour!

Virgin Coconut Flour has a coco-nutty creamy flavour with a coconut sweet aroma. Coconut Flour is gluten-free and hypoallergenic with high dietary fibre content of 40% which is the highest percentage of dietary fibre found in any kind of flour and contains four times as much fibre as soy flour, says Shanthini.
Seventy-five percent of the total carbohydrate content in coconut flour is dietary fibre where it lowers risk of heart disease, help prevent cancer, improves digestive function, helps regulate blood sugar, etc. It also has several advantages over most other forms of fibre including relieving symptoms associated with Crohn’s disease, expel intestinal parasites, and improve mineral absorption.
Coconut Flour can be used to make bread, cakes, pies, cookies and other baked goods. Use 15-25% in place of other flours. Coconut Flour can be used in gravy as thickener, as chocolate fillers or bulking agents and also for emulsified products such as meat loaf and sausages,” says Shanthini.
“My product is not only a business venture but also a service to humankind too. It’s all about health and what’s more important than health and as the saying goes, ‘Health is Wealth’!”
Normal coconut oil is refined and it has to go through a manufacturing process. Virgin Coconut Oil is cold pressed and the process retains all its good nutrients within the product and it’s white in colour. It’s absolutely raw, nutritious and delicious.

When it goes to the western world, it gets solidified, more like lard, says Shanthini. “I keep a jar in the refrigerator and scoop out a spoon a day….just melts in the mouth – why not try it?
Coconut Miracle is also recommended as a pet food…Usage – one tbs a day helps with Digestion, skin conditions, immune system, metabolic function & bone health
