Drought Affected Yet To Recover

The people affected by the drought are yet to recover despite the little rain experienced in some of the affected areas.

According to the Disaster Management Centre, the number of people affected by drought as of last Friday was 2,007,520.

Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre, Pradeep Kodippili said that despite small showers experienced in some of the drought hit areas, the situation prevails.

“The Disaster Management Centre have been dispatching necessary funds and water to District Secretariat of drought hit areas daily to help people face the situation,” he added.

According to him, the maximum number of people affected by drought is reported from the Kurunegala District.

According to stats as of last Friday, 214,048 people are affected in the Uva Province, 200,762 in the North Central Province, 412,451 in the Eastern Province, 561,216 in the North Western Province, 236,572 in the Southern Province and 382,471 in the Northern Province.
