Pope’s Visit On Track So Far

By Nirmala Kannangara

Pope Francis’ scheduled visit to Sri Lanka in January next year is still on track as the Government has not made any official announcement of a Presidential Election, Catholic Church Spokesman Rev. Cyril Gamini said.

Although there was confusion earlier over the Pontiff’s visit because of an impending Presidential Election in January, Fr. Cyril Gamini said that the scheduled itinerary will not be changed as the Church has not been informed of an election in January.

Meanwhile it is learnt that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has not responded to Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith’s letter which was sent to find out whether an election would be held in January.

When contacted, Fr. Cyril Gamini said that neither the Catholic Church nor Cardinal Malcom Ranjith had informed Vatican about an impending election as it is only a rumour.

“We have written to the President asking whether there would be an election in January to which the President is yet to reply. Hence we need not jump into conclusion and the planned programme will be carried out. When asked whether the Catholic Church will inform Vatican the country’s plans if an election is announced, Fr. Gamini said that there is no necessity for the Catholic Church to inform Vatican as the news will go internationally.

The very foundation of the catholic faith has been destroyed by the Northern clergy and especially by S.J.Emmanuels ( See : The beast by Mario Perera on sale at godage & Sons publishers)

Malcom Ranjith & Cyril gamini need to repair this damage first before talking of Presidential elections.
Catholic Church of SL need to get Emmanuel/Rayappu and those Tamil & Sinhala clergy who sided with Emmanuel & the division of the Country banished from the Church before Pope can visit SL..
Emmanuels actions are a challenge not only to the C/Church of SL but also to the Vatican as well.
C/Church higherachy are toothless.Malcom R & cyril must focus on reality like Pope francis had said instead of living on past ideas & roman pompus.
