By Indika Sri Aravinda

Common opposition Presidential candidate MaithripalaSirisena, is to sign multiple agreements tomorrow, which includes one with the main opposition United National Party (UNP).

The agreements are to be signed outside the ViharaMaha Devi Park in Colombo.

Meanwhile, the JathikaHelaUrumaya is expected to take a final decision either today or tomorrow morning on if it will also sign an agreement with Sirisena and back him at the Presidential election.

Apart from the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with the UNP, Sirisena will also sign an agreement and the venerable AthuraliyaRathana who heads the PivithuruHetak Movement.

The opposition common candidate will also sign a separate agreement with the smaller political parties who have expressed support to him, opposition sources said.

Even though initially some political parties wanted to sign to an agreement with the venerable MadulwaweSobitha and his People’s Movement for a Just Society, it was later decided otherwise with the introduction of MaithripalaSirisena as the common opposition candidate.

Meanwhile the Democratic People’s Front said that it will support MaithripalaSirisena at the January election. Leader of the Democratic People’s Front Mano Ganeshan said that although there are other candidates who have come forward to contest against President MahindaRajapaksa at the polls, his party has decided to back Sirisena.

Parliamentarian RajithaSenaratne, meanwhile, insisted that more Government members will join the common opposition on a weekly basis despite the Government saying no one will crossover.

The former Fisheries Minister said he expected a mass gathering for the common opposition’s first election rally in Pollonaruwa today.

MaithripalaSirisena will lead the election rally in Pollonaruwa.

  1. patriot

No other Sri Lankan will be as power hungry and corrupt as the present incumbent if elected as President.Hence the first priority should be to vote him out and think of other matters later. Therefore all must rally round the Opposition Common Candidate MS unconditionally.

  2. The government cannot go on using wining the war as his trump card for future election. Our President says that he has developed the country a lot after the war. I do agree. But we borrowed heavily for these developments and where has half of those money has gone into. Only half of the money is utilised for development. We have to stop this culture. If our country want to move forward we need Westminster type parliament. Whoever wins the election and abolish the executive presidency he and his comrades should sit with our Tamil brothers and find a long lasting solution to our ethnic problem. For God sake I advice all the politicians not to use Tamils problem for you political survival.

  3. srilanka need a democratic government. we are against the terror government.people of counry has the rights in the constitution, today srilanka constitution has became a mockery of srilanka, judical politicies, public service was in politics, civial adminitration and judical adminitration has no place,it was undermine.
