Gunaratnam Faces Arrest

By Indika Sri Aravinda

Central Working Committee member of the Frontline Socialist Party, Kumar Gunaratnam, could face arrest if he engages in political campaigning for the Presidential election.

The Department of Immigration and Emigration said that Gunaratnam needs to obtain permission from the department if he wants to engage in any political activity in the country.

Since Gunarathnam had arrived in the country on a 30-day tourist visa, he cannot engage in political activities in the country, the Department of Immigration and Emigration said.

Chief Controller of the Department of Immigration and Emigration M.S. Ranasinghe said that the department has the power to deport Gunaratnam if he engages in political activities since it is illegal to do so when he is staying in the country on a tourist visa.

Asked for a comment, an official from the Election Commission said if Gunaratnam violates the Immigration and Emigration Act, the relevant department has the authority to take legal action against him.

He was to address an election rally tomorrow in Kadawatte. Meanwhile the media spokesperson of the Front Line Socialist Party Pubudu Jayagoda said that there were security concerns regarding Gunaratnam’s safety. He arrived in Sri Lanka last week. The last time he arrived in Sri Lanka, some persons who came by a white van abducted him and it was said that the event has some connection with the security forces.

However, his safety has become a major problem this time due to his public appearance for the political activities of the party. Jayagoda also said that the party has decided to recruit civil security personal to protect Gunaratnam since they have no faith in the security provided by the Sri Lankan Police Department.

Why should the SL police provide security to a person with a tourist visa. If he wants personal security he can hire a security service.

Ha ha ha, what a farce. The Rajapaksas are so bankrupt that they allowed a man on a fake passport and name to return back to the country and this same man was abducted by Gota’s team in a white van earlier. Another incident in the Rajapaksa Miracle of Asia.

All of a sudden a deported man arrives in the mid of a campaign. If he comes in support of opposition candidate there ‘ll be no visa granted. His motive is to support the regime and he was granted visa and any donkey can understand this. His leftist ideology and the followers on the ditch.
