Kotte Land Forcibly Taken Over

Kotte Mayor Janaka Ranawaka said that a letter was being prepared to President Maithripala Sirisena, informing him that three lands worth Rs. 4800 million belong to the Kotte Municipal Council had been forcibly taken over by the Urban Development Authority.

These pieces of land have been taken over by the Chairman of the UDA under the instructions of the Former Secretary of the Defence Ministry. Of these plots of land (about 10 acres) which were forcibly acquired, one plot has been given to Colombo Ananda College on the instructions of the former Defence Secretary, while the other has been given to the Rajagiriya Diabetes centre.Mayor Ranawaka further stated that the commercial value of this land is about Rs. 3 million a perch and according to the investigations conducted so far, this land has been acquired between 2012 -2015.

The mayor is also to request the president to commence an investigation into the land acquisition. He also said that so far the UDA has not furnished any details regarding the development work carried out within the Kotte MC limits and urged the president to look into this discrepancy as well.

In addition to this land, the UDA has also acquired 3 acres in Rajagiriya, 7 acres in Nugegoda and 20 perches on Sarana Mawatha in Rajagiriya.
