Probe On Railway Project

The government is to launch a separate investigation into a project worth USD 149 million, which was carried out by the previous government to construct a railway track from Palai to Kankesanthurai.

Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Transport Dr Lalithasiri Gunaruwan says a separate committee will be appointed to investigate the project. He added that on this track only a small train with a few compartments can travel.

The reason for this is due to the completion of the track without allowing enough space to turn the train at both ends.

There are allegations that the construction of the 52-kilometre long railway track from Palai to Kankesenthurai had been done without a proper plan. (ISA)

In any Project after completion there is a Audit and if this was not done the Authorities concerned should be reported to the Authority for corruption

This is one among a number of road and rail projects that have been poorly planned. One main reason is the complete lack of consultation with stakeholders. Not just politicians but also senior Ministry officials have significant responsibility for these failures. I have not seen any instances where the present government has called on these officials to account. Isn’t it time for a comprehensive review of Ministry Secretaries’ backgrounds and their track records? Unless this is done, the country will continue on this path of repeated bungling of development.

Yes. Need to bring the Auditors into question.

Also need to find about the purchase of the French Locomotive engines imported from France. I am told they lay idle from that time.

Money..money…money… its like honey for the rich mans world.
