Members of the Northern Provincial Council Ananthy Sasitharan and Kanagalingam Sivajilingam are in a visit to South Africa reportedly to attend a special conference with the Tamil Diaspora groups. When inquired the Northern Provincial Council, Chairman of the NPC Kandiya Sivagnanam said that the NCP is not fully aware of the purpose of the visit. “It is a private visit. I think they have gone on a visit to South Africa. I think they are supposed to attend a seminar or a workshop. They have taken about 10 days leave,” he said.

Reportedly, Members of the Northern Provincial Council Ananthy Sasitharan and Kanagalingam Sivajilingam left the country on the 4th of this month to attend a two conference from 7th to 8th of this month in Durban, South Africa. According to the reports, the conference has been organised by former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethan Pillay – and Sasitharan and Sivajilingam attended the conference upon her invitation. Reportedly, the focus of the conference is to discuss the matters related to the UN resolution on the internal matters of Sri Lanka – and Tamil Diaspora groups from Norway, Canada, and several other countries were expected to attend the conference.
