Salley Says No To Interference

by Waruni Karunarathne

Working Director of Sri Lanka Cement Corporation (SLCC) and Lanka Cement Plc, Reyyaz Salley says that nobody will be allowed to interfere into the matters related to the SLCC other than the subject minister, Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen.

Speaking to the Sunday Leader, Sally alleged that under the instructions of the Ministry of Rehabilitation, land at KKS that belongs to the SLCC was being cleared without the consent of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for resettlement. “When we checked it out, the officials claimed that land is being cleared under the instruction of the Rehabilitation Ministry with the objective to resettle the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP). But the Rehabilitation Ministry denied that,” he added. Sally said that the IDPs should be resettled in the land that originally belonged to them but not in the land that belong to the SLCC which is a commercial area where there is a lime-stone deposit which has a huge commercial value.

When contacted Government Agent of Jaffna N.Vethanayagam,  told The Sunday Leader that the clearing of the land that belonged to the SLCC was commenced due to a misunderstanding as they were under the impression that the land was to be cleared to resettle people. “When I was informed about the incident, I immediately contacted the Divisional Secretary on last Thursday and immediately put a stop to clearing,” he said.  Responding to a statement made by Minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs D. M. Swaminathan, Sally said that they will not allow anybody to interfere into the affairs related to the SLCC other than the subject minister. “The KKS Cement Factory belongs to the SLCC. The SLCC comes under the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishard Buthuideen. Minister Swaminathan cannot talk about the matters related to the SLCC without the consent of our ministry,” he added. Recently, in an interview with the Sunday Leader, Minister Swaminathan said that he has discussed the Cement Corporation with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA). He added that they have expressed their interest to remodel it.

This is a clear indication that Ministries have not been assigned in scientific manner as JVP pointed out. There are overlapping ministries in abundance.

Even prior to devolution of powers, the TNA seem to be taking matters into their own hands.

Rishard Buthideen , is already responsible for clearing 2000 acres of the forest belongs to wild life to settle muslim families without any authority to do so. Now, he has the assistance of Reyyas Sally to promote more Muslim colonies without any interference. Where Sri Lanka heading to and inaction of Yahaplalanaya government?
