AG Protects Elephant Thieves?

by Bashana Dissanayake

A delay by the Attorney General’s (AG) Department to issue instructions to court has resulted in the failure to arrest the venerable Uduwe Dhammaloka thero over the possession of an elephant using fake documents.

Sources at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) said that all the relevant details on investigations conducted on the venerable Uduwe Dhammaloka thero, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and 21 others have been given to the AG.

The CID, however, says the AG has so far failed to give a positive response and this has resulted in the delay to arrest the monk.

Meanwhile, the venerable Uduwe Dhammaloka thero had reported sick and had claimed that he was receiving treatment in hospital.

The sources, however, said the monk was seen delivering Buddhist lectures in Kelaniya and other places.

Meanwhile, sources from the Department of Wildlife said they also have information on forged documents issued by the Director General of the Department, H.D Ratnayake, in relation to the case.

Department’s top rungs must be cleaned and recruit from the unofficial bar. This is the only solution.
