CSN Using Navy Property For Transmission

by Camelia Nathaniel

Carlton Sports Network (CSN) is said to be using Navy property to transmit its programs on its network.

The Navy transmission tower in Pidurutalagala was used by CSN but they had subsequently erected their own tower but had used other facilities belonging to the Navy to broadcast from the location.

When The Sunday Leader spoke to the Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne, he said that some of the CSN equipment is located inside the Navy transmission room and the CSN mast has also been used by the Navy to put some of their antennas.“This mast was built around three years back during the last regime with MOD approval and for all these services the CSN is paying us Rs. 47,000 every month as a rent.

For the antennas that we have fixed on their mast, we are not paying them anything. That is the arrangement,” he added.

Responding to queries about Navy personnel being used, he said that as these are transmitting and receiving antennas, no personnel are needed.

“However we have some of our sailors guarding the place as we have our own antennas there for communication work,” he said.

Was there anything of the Sri Lankan resources the Rajapakses did not use with impunity. The regime already owe Rs.millions to SriLankan Airlines and SriLankan telephones. I am sure more will emerge as investigations continue.
