CID Yet To Get Bank Details In Lasantha Probe

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is yet to receive the bank details of several army intelligence officers over the investigations related to the murder of the founding Editor of The Sunday Leader newspaper, Lasantha Wickrematunge. Two weeks ago the CID had submitted to 23 banks and financial institutions a court order seeking details on 60 army intelligence officers who are to be investigated in connection with Wickrematunge’s murder.

Court approval to investigate the bank accounts was obtained by the CID. CID sources said that they visited 23 state and private banks and financial institutions to submit the court order.

The CID expected the bank details of the 60 army intelligence officers to be made available last week.

However CID sources told The Sunday Leader that the bank details were not received by last Friday.

  1. Naturally, The bank officials would have got threatening calls or indications that their lives would be in danger if they complied. If there is an unwarranted delay the GM of the bank should be held responsible and charged. Nobody, in whatever inquiry into fraud or corruption and other crimes, should allowed to go around it by an unprincipled, unfair or unlawful method, even by any influence. High time the judges of all levels stood up strongly against any of this.,

  2. There are some corrupt judges still in office,it’s high time they are got rid of.
