Demo In Jaffna Against Govt.

Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran led a demonstration in Jaffna yesterday against the government. Most shops in the Jaffna town were closed during the demonstration.

The protest is against what some claim is the systematic settlement of Sinhalese people in the Tamil dominated region and the erection of Buddhist statues in an area devoid of Buddhist devotees.

The Tamil People’s Council (TPC) organised the demonstration, which also garnered the support of some constituent members of the Tamil National Alliance and the Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) led by Gajen Ponnambalam.

Internally displaced citizens in welfare camps deserve to be settled first.
Intimidation by Buddha statues is the name of the game.

This demonstration has proven that TNA leader Mr. Sampanthan has become irrelevant to Tamils. Mr. Sampanthan along with Mr. Sumanthiran has fooled Tamils by presenting an election platform on which they would work. Unfortunately, they are not working on that platform after being elected. Tamils need a new leadership since Mr.Sampanthan is too old and not energetic and not honest with people. TNA should be transparent about this politics if they believe in democracy and not in secrecy.

Tamil leadership should inform Tamil people proposed or acceptable solution to Tamil people. Likewise, Singhalese leaders should talk to Singhalese people to make them to understand the acceptable solution to the problem. It cannot be achieved by keeping all in secret.
