SLC Denies Boycotting Charity Walk

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Board has denied claims it boycotted a charity walk held in support of a new cancer unit for the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

It was reported in The Sunday Leader newspaper last week that SLC had refused to formally support the charity walk in which former top cricketers Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene were participating.

Whilst denying the allegations, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board said that SLC was contacted by the organizers of Trail 2016 with a proposal for assistance and support from the Sri Lanka National Team for the Trail 2016 fund raiser.

The said proposal requested support from Sri Lanka Cricket during the recent Australian cricket team tour of Sri Lanka.

SLC said that bilateral tours are conducted under the guidelines of the International Cricket Council, and legally binding contracts and arrangements are entered into well before the commencement of any such tour.

Since the request by Trail 2016 was made well into the start of the Australian tour to Sri Lanka the Sri Lanka Cricket Board was not in a position to entertain the request.
