TNA On The Verge Of Split Over Wigneswaran Issue

By Easwaran Rutnam

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is on the verge of a major split over the issue which has arisen on Northern Province Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran.

Several constituent parties in the TNA have opposed moves to seek the removal of Wigneswaran over the corruption issue in the Northern Provincial Council.

The TNA last week said it will push for Wigneswaran’s removal if he fails to withdraw his call for the resignation of four Northern Provincial Council Ministers instead of calling for action on the real accused in the corruption issue.

A group of 21 Northern Provincial Council members had submitted a no-confidence motion on Wigneswaran to the Northern Province Governor.

Subsequently 15 Northern Provincial Council members submitted a counter resolution supporting Wigneswaran.

CVW carried out his duty by holding an inquiry on corruption allegations and it is his duty to request resignations from those found guilty.
    The public supports him.
