PA coalition for north-eastmerger

The People's Alliance has agreed to introduce the permanent merger of the North and East Provinces in the new constitutionof which it has sought the people's mandate at the general election. This has been revealed in the manifesto of PA coalition partner EPDP, which quotes party leader and Northern Development Minister Douglas Devananda as stating that the party was fully committed for a merged North and East.

BLUE GREEN UNITY: Anybody would be forgiven for believing these five candidates are contesting from the same party. In reality however, they are candidates from the two main parties, arch-rivals United National Party and the People's Alliance. While in the rest of the country supporters of both parties are engaged in a violent battle, in a rare show of comradeship, in Pannipitiya, Maharagama, the two offices of the two parties stand cheek by jowl with no reports of clashes reported. Sharjah no tonic for West Indies series

IT WOULD'VE been nice to approach the West Indies series in the afterglow of a third triumph in the Sharjah tri-nation. That success was a realistic proposition, especially after a rollicking three-win start. But in the end, it all went awry. The failure to get among Sharjah cricket's history books as the only nation, outside Pakistan, to achieve a hat-trick of triumphs, isn't the only disappointment..
