Trinco oil tank farm for India

The government will this week approve a proposal to lease the Trincomalee oil tank farms to the Indian government owned company Indian Oil.

This decision was taken by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe after extensive talks with India, both personally as well as through Economic Reforms Minister Milinda Moragoda.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe last week directed both the Economic Reforms Ministry and the Power and Energy Ministry to submit the cabinet papers this week recommending the leasing of the oil tank farms to Indian Oil.

Opposition leader Mahinda Rajapakse gave new life to a dorman SLFP by staging successful agitational campaign against the government in Nugegoda on Thursday (16), where the themes was the rising cost of living and harassment meted out to PA supporters. Mystery of the two MI-24s

A high level government probe has been initiated to find if the Sri Lankan government under the People’s Alliance paid a sum of USD 6.2 million to the Russian government for the purchase of two MI-24 helicopters in 1999.

The two helicopters under probe arrived in Sri Lanka on June 21, 1999 and was officially accepted by the Sri Lanka Air Force eight days later on the 29th. This was after routine checks were carried out to ascertain the viability of the two helicopters.
