Air Force Chief asked to quit

The government has requested Air force Commander Air Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody to step down or face an inquiry into the incident involving the motor accident opposite the D. S. Senanayake College on June 15.

Defence Minister Tilak Marapone told The Sunday Leader that he has asked the air force commander to step down or face an inquiry.  The minister had also told him if an inquiry is to be held it would have to be a credible inquiry and the government would have to act on the findings of the investigation.

This young female LTTE cadre approached a group of journalists visiting Wanni at the LTTE heroes cemetery at Visuvamadu to find out more about a professional TV camera. She knew the basics of the operations and took running lessons from the cameraman. CBK put on the dock with Choksy serving damning questionaire

With the controversy over the multi million dollar luxury vehicles purchase by President Chandrika Kumaratunga stirring a hornet's nest in cabinet the previous week, Finance Minister K.N. Choksy turned the heat on last week by forwarding a questionnaire to the president.

This questionnaire in the form of a note to cabinet by Choksy who is the chairman of the cabinet sub committee appointed to probe the issue in itself is an indictment on the president, who will now have to draft her response with the utmost caution.
