Wide agenda at Thai talks, says Bala

A wide range of issues aimed at consolidating and strengthening the ongoing peace process will be the agenda at the forthcoming Norway facilitated mid-September  direct talks in Thailand between the Sri Lankan government and The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Punchinilame runs amok

Allegations of corruption among some government ministers are slowly but surely beginning to dog the progress of the United National Front government. Now, another government minister appears to be blotting his copybook ignoring the wider ramifications of his actions for the government of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

This time around, Minister Susantha Punchinilame is being charged with seriously misappropriating the finances of the Tea Shakthi Fund (TSF) - which is under his ministry the Tea Small Holders Development Authority (TSHDA).

The issue is snowballing into crisis proportions - so much so that Deputy Minister  of Plantations  Navin Dissanayake said the entire tea small holders industry is hanging in the balance "and may collapse" as Chairman, Tea Small Holders Development Authority, Ratna Gamage and Minister, Susantha Punchinilame are clashing.
