Wrangle over IG post

The tussle for the post of  Inspector General of Police (IGP) continues as two heavyweights in the Police Department, Senior DIG Crimes, H. M. G. B. Kotakadeniya and Senior DIG Administration, T. Anandarajah are hotly contending the seat.

Influential members of the United National Front government are tussling over a multi million rupee development project at the Bandaranaike International Airport, as they lobby hard for a party faithful to be awarded the tender.

In a bid to ensure this tender is awarded to a favourite of the UNP, stalwarts of the UNP have interfered and brought pressure on the attorney general to review his decision that the Cabinet Appointed Tender Board (CATB) should not accommodate the bid by Laing-ABB-Marubeni Joint Venture because it did not adhere to the tender requirements. The attorney general, to his credit gave an earlier order which went against an influential UNPer despite much subtle pressure reportedly brought on him.  .
