stalwarts of the UNP have interfered and brought pressure on the
attorney general to review his decision that the Cabinet Appointed
Tender Board (CATB) should not accommodate the bid by
Laing-ABB-Marubeni Joint Venture because it did not adhere to the
tender requirements. The attorney general, to his credit gave an
earlier order which went against an influential UNPer despite much
subtle pressure reportedly brought on him.
