CBK's constitutional conundrum

Even as she boycotted the two cabinet meetings last week, President Chandrika Kumaratunga must have reflected on the fact that it is from little acorns that mighty oaks do grow.

Up until the time Mangala Samaraweera misplaced the now notorious constitutional coup memorandum by which he hoped to wrest power from the UNF and hail the advent of the PA once more, Kumaratunga had Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe eating out of her hand.

Lanka gets  international backing

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will meet with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan at the UN on Wednesday, September 18.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has in his report to the General Assembly on Friday said he is encouraged by the progress in Sri Lanka facilitated by Norway.


Advanced Level students opposing the government’s decision to change the grading system have been holding a sathyagraha outside the University Grants Commission (UGC) for more than 35 days. that emanated from my living room early
that morning — gasps, shouts and sighs,
as my family witnessed the first plane fly
into the World Trade Center. I immediately
