calls for conscription
Minister Milinda Moragoda has proposed to the government the
introduction of compulsory conscription to the security forces.
Minister Moragoda has said irrespective of whether there is
war or peace in Sri Lanka, he strongly believes there should be
conscription to instil discipline in society.
The Minister has also pointed out conscription will be a
great social leveller.
Moragoda is expected to formally announce his proposal at a
Defence Academy ceremony on January 15.
Contacted by The Sunday Leader, Minister Moragoda
confirmed he has proposed the move to the government.
