While the UNF government last week mapped out a strategy to push ahead with the peace process and provide economic relief for the people, President Chandrika Kumaratunga was busy putting in motion her strategy of sabotaging Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's efforts before the donor conference in June.

It is no secret that the government hopes to consolidate both the peace process as well as the economy on the strength of pledges made at the donor conference scheduled for June 9 to 10 in Tokyo and is working overtime to make the event a success.

President Chandrika Kumaratunga was driven to tears while attending the commemoration ceremony of her late husband Vijaya Kumaratunga. The ceremony was held at the Mahaweli Kendraya, Colombo. Alongside the President are Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse, MP Athula Nimalasiri Silva and President's Secretary, Kusumsiri Balapatabendi

President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe last week clashed over the role of Japan and USA in Sri Lanka, with the Premier calling upon the President to maintain the dignity of her office.

The clash over foreign policy ensued after President Kumaratunga in a stinging letter to the Prime Minister questioned the UNF governmentOs foreign policy priorities.
