Why Arjuna
wants to fight
a losing battle

ARJUNA Ranatunga, one thought, would be as powerful a figure in his club, the SSC, as the legendary F C de Saram was in the 1940s and 50s. Stories of how the Oxford graduate, with his authoritative manner, had his way in the affairs of the SSC can fill a book, and yet remain unforgotten.  Time, of course, has added its garnishing to the tales, but it is fair to say that in an era of long ago de Saram was more or less the last word at the SSC -  and by extension, Sri Lanka cricket. The long awaited Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka, the BCCSL election has taken a firm turn making the event a one horse race under prevalent circumstances.

Interestingly enough the campaign envisages another side to the story. The back up contingent of the high riding Thilanga Sumathipala camp includes high profile corporate sector administrators almost assured of being given the job of guiding Sri Lankan cricket for a two year term. The names of Ajith Nivaad Cabraal.
