THE Sunday Leader was once again a top award winner at the fifth annual Journalism Awards of Excellence organised by the Editors' Guild of Sri Lanka. The Sunday Leader News Features Editor, Amantha Perera won the coveted Mervyn de Silva 'Best Journalist of the Year' award. Amantha, who is the son of veteran journalist, late B.C. Perera, was voted the 'Best English Journalist of the Year' in 2001 and 'Young Reporter of the Year' in 1999. The top picture shows Amantha receiving

his award from the newly appointed Chairman, Press Complaints Commission, Sam Wijesinha. Features Editor Ranee Mohamed won the  D.R. Wijewardene award for 'Earning the Appreciation of Peers and Public.' Ranee won an award for the fifth successive year. She is seen receiving her award from Chairman, Wijeya Group, Ranjith Wijewardene, who incidentally celebrates his birthday tomorrow

UNF's move to set up Lanka's

Since recent times there have been calls to legalise the sex trade in Sri Lanka. It still remains largely underground  but continues unabated, feeding on the sexual desires of many people.  

The law enforcement authorities occasionally raid brothels and massage parlours and arrest sex workers, but often such activities continue with the connivance of police officers and influential individuals.
