Life launches 'Ceylinco Sisu Handa'
Students
in Sri Lanka have been provided with a forum to air their views and
discuss their concerns through a new television programme
conceptualised and funded by Ceylinco Life.
'Ceylinco
Sisu Handa' (or Ceylinco Students' Voice) telecast by the Independent
Television Network (ITN) on Saturday nights at 9.30, is modelled on
the popular talk shows used by politicians to debate national issues.
The programme's moderator is also a student and a guest speaker is
always on hand to provide an adult or expert perspective on the topic
of the day, the company said.
Explaining
the rationale for the programme, Ceylinco Life's Director/General
Manager, R. Renganathan said, "The Pranama scholarship scheme was
launched to groom future leaders of our country. We believe that
participating in programmes such as 'Ceylinco Sisu Handa' will build
the strength, character and leadership potential of the participant
and also help draw attention to the problems and issues students face
today."
"Politicians
and businessmen have many opportunities to publicly express their
views but students have virtually none. It is to redress this that the
Ceylinco Pranama scholarship scheme launched this programme,"
Renganathan added.
Participants
and the moderators are drawn from Ceylinco Pranama scholarship holders
and Ceylinco Life policyholder's children from all parts of the
country. Each programme features three panelists and a guest speaker
who is a specialist in the chosen topic, or is from the education
sector.
Topics
for each programme are decided in advance and focus on current issues
of relevance such as the importance of English, child abuse,
teacher-student relationships, and the restructuring of the education
system.
'Ceylinco
Sisu Handa' is another project in addition to the company's popular
Pranama scholarship scheme to groom future leaders.
