The shock of her life…

Seldom does one begin a story at the end. But that is how this story begins – at the end. For after laying open
before me, the chapters of her life filled with woe, 17 year old Jeewani, slipped herself off the hospital bed without the support of her mutilated hands, and bowed down in  worship that was not a physical success. But though she was unable to touch my feet, she touched my heart.

Jeewani Lakmali, born in Hambantota on August 17, 1985 is warded at the Burns Unit of the National Hospital. She is under the care of plastic surgeon Dr. Chandini Perera.

Let us hear the voice of the blind choir

The blind choir of Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped (SLFVH)
            was revived in 1996 to bring to the public, the talents and capabilities of the visually handicapped.

Though these members of the choir cannot see the audience, it does not change their performing skill and their determination to give their best to those who have placed their confidence in them.

Speaking to The Sunday Leader, job placement, public awareness and fund raising officer, SLFVH, Rienzi Benedict and an old St Benedictine, said that earlier in the 1970’s and 1980’s the choir used to perform in a big way. But something happened and the choir faded away. But in 1996 they were revived, their voices were heard again.
