Sangari warns Sampanthan

Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) leader V.Anandasangari has warned his party secretary general R.Sampanthan that he is not empowered to discuss any political alliance with any political party without his permission.

In a strongly worded letter to Sampanthan the TULF leader has reminded him that he has been directed by the Judge of the District Court to consult him in all matters pertaining to party affairs and that he in his capacity as the secretary general is debarred from making any decision without getting his approval.

Anandasangari in his letter addressed to Sampantha with a copy attached to the Elections Commissioner has also informed Sampanthan that the party has not made any decision to form any alliance with other political parties and even if Sampanthan was to discuss about any matters relating to this effect he should seek his permission as directed by the court order dated 11/02/2004.

“At no stage, in any of the TULF meetings we decided to form an alliance with other political parties for the forthcoming parliamentary elections to take place on April 2. I am surprised to learn through media that you had been representing our party without my knowledge at meetings with other political parties and discussing about party alliance. Please refrain from attending any meetings convened by other political parties and if at all you receive any such invitations, you should have my prior approval in writing to attend such meetings.

“You also have no authority to convene any such meetings with other political parties and hence please refrain from indulging in such activities,” he has warned Sampanthan.

He has told Sampanthan that the TULF has a separate identity and the party cannot afford to lose this identity, which had been built for years.

He has further said that as a very senior Tamil politician being in Parliament for 15 years and in Sri Lankan politics for 50 years it is his firm belief that if the part has to serve the Tamil community sincerely and truly the TULF being the only moderate party with an ‘unblemished political history and good track record’ should contest the north and east under the party symbol.

“I also learn through media that you are independently in discussion with people who are not members of our party to get them to contest under TULF flag and symbol. May I

know who authorized you to do this? My humble request is for you to kindly confine yourself within the ambit of your designation as ‘Secretary General’ and do not get involved in any matters that could jeopardize the status and good name of the party,” he has said.

He has also warned him that any violation of the above mentioned matters would result in the contempt of court and that he is liable for any or all consequences arising there onwards.
